Washington Clay Arts Association (WCA)

Washington Clay Arts AssociationThe WCA webpage is WashingtonClayArts .Org.

Washington Clay Arts Association (WCA) formed in 1983 as the Washington Potters Asosociation to promote better communication for potters across the state. WPA renamed itself to Washington Clay Arts Association in 2008. The organization is a fantastic resource for the Pacific Northwest ceramic community

Membership in the organization is open to everyone interested in clay. Members are usually Washington Staters. I was honored to serve three terms as President and two as Vice President while living in the Seattle area and subsequently was awarded lifetime membership.

The WCA was featured in the Pottery Making IllustratedMay-June 2003 issue of Pottery Making Illustrated. The WPA (old acronym) and the Pacific Northwest pottery scene were the subject of 2 articles and the editor's column in the issue.

The issue also had technique articles by 7 WPA members including Elinor Maroney, Steve Dalton, Donna Sparks, Paul Lewing, Yonnah Ben Levy, Judy Harper and myself, Maria Spies. My article "How to make a Rattle Mug", can be seen and read here (click).

Pottery Making Illustrated, a project of the American Ceramics SocietyAmerican Ceramics Society, is an excellent source of information!
